Details

A hands-on Wilderness First Aid course built for women and non-binary outdoor athletes—practical skills, realistic scenarios, and the confidence to respond when things don’t go as planned on trail. Dates: June 27-28 Where: Gray, ME Best For: Women + non-binary identifying hikers, bikers, trail runners *Yes, you can renew your WFR at this course! If you spend time hiking, riding, or running on trails—whether close to town or deeper into the woods—you know that injuries and illnesses can happen anywhere. Terrain is uneven, weather can change quickly, and access to immediate medical care isn’t always straightforward. Being prepared means knowing how to respond for yourself or others until help arrives. This Wilderness First Aid course is designed specifically for those who recreate outdoors, blending practical medical skills with real-world decision-making. Rather than focusing on expedition-level medicine, this training centers on situations common to trail-based activities: crashes and falls, fractures and sprains, cuts and abrasions, overuse injuries, dehydration, heat and cold illness, allergic reactions, and managing incidents on trails, trailheads, and outdoor recreation areas. You’ll learn how to assess situations, care for a patient over time, and decide when and how to escalate care—while staying calm, communicating clearly, and making sound decisions under pressure. Through hands-on practice, scenario-based learning, and guided discussion, this course builds practical skills, confidence, and judgment so you’re prepared to respond effectively wherever you recreate.
