Details

A hands-on Wilderness First Aid course built for educators and youth-focused outdoor professionals—practical skills, realistic scenarios, and the confidence to respond when kids are in your care. Dates: June 6-7 Where: Gray, ME Best For: All genders - educators, outdoor educators, recreation professionals, youth program leaders *Yes, you can renew your WFR at this course! If you work with kids outdoors—on school grounds, trails, playing fields, or in backcountry-adjacent spaces—you know emergencies don’t always look textbook. Help may be delayed, resources are limited, and you’re often responsible not just for an injured child, but for an entire group. This Wilderness First Aid course is designed specifically for people who work with youth, blending practical medical skills with real-world decision-making. Rather than focusing on high-level expedition medicine, this training centers on the kinds of scenarios educators and recreation professionals actually encounter: falls, fractures, cuts & scrapes, allergic reactions, environmental exposure, illness, and group management during an incident. You’ll learn how to assess situations, care for a patient over time, and decide when and how to escalate care—while staying calm, supporting kids emotionally, and managing the rest of the group. Through hands-on practice, scenario-based learning, and guided discussion, this course builds practical skills, sound judgment, and confidence for educators and professionals responsible for youth in outdoor or active settings—so you’re prepared to respond thoughtfully and effectively when it matters most. About Your Instructor: Courtney of Wild Maine Med is a Wilderness EMT, SOLO instructor, and experiential educator with 20+ years leading outdoor and international programs.
